Athletics Reflection

Malo e lelei and talofa lava My name is Mariposa. Last week Friday. Pt England School had an Athletics day. I will explain my 5 key main points which are Highlights, Effort and Team Spirit, Lesson for Life and my Final Thoughts.

Highlights

The Athletics Day was held at Pt England School. And at the Pt England reserve. The Weather at Athletics was so Burning Hot!!!! Like the sun was coming closer every hour. If you guys were there you will understand because man it was burning hot!!!! I felt low confidence and low energy. Because I didn’t feel like it. But it’s the year 8s last year of being here at Pt England. During athletics. I Sat – Hang out with my friends which are Elion, Feiloaki, Mason Emmanuel, Nooroa and Junior. And more that I forgot.

Connecting And Understanding Your Team

My 2 events that stood out to me even though I didn’t even try just to let you know I was just having fun so my 2 events which are Volleyball and Tug- of- war. Here’s why Volleyball isn’t just a game for you to shine or show your moment. It’s about connecting with your team. Supporting your team. And understanding each other.

Physical Strength and Technique

And Tug – of – war is just so hard and fun at the same time why it’s hard because. Us humans have to use our physical strength and use our mind – IQ to think of strategies to beat the opponents. Well before we did tug of war. One person on our team thought of something to beat the opponents. He said to keep pulling as we are pulling he said to jump back and pull. We tried our best. But we lost. It’s alright because 2nd place is not bad. So I just want to say thank you to Hikianalia for trying their best and having a fun and awesome time of the year.

My event that I gave my best effort in is Volleyball. It is because me and my team were trying but even though we still lost it’s alright. A memorable moment I’ll never forget is when Bella from the year 7 girls threw the discs so far. She threw it all the way to the senior park.

Effort and Team Spirit

Showing Perseverance

I persevered by supporting my team. As an easier way of saying it I was supporting – Helping my team. How you may asked? Well I was moving around even though my team was getting confused why I was moving around too much? It’s because I was trying to cover my teammates seeking them to hit the volleyball. In case they need help. Before they get confused which one will hit the ball.

Event – Game Scatterball – mini paragraph incoming!!!!

Instructions

  1. There 2 teams 1 attacking 1 defending attacking there are 3 or 4 hoops to score points in order to score points run to the hoop and go to another.

  1. Defending teams scatter around to keep the throwers radius of throwing the ball.
  2. NO moving when the thrower is throwing the ball until the 3rd ball touches the ground.
  3. NO defending the ball when it gets thrown.
  4. If cheating that counts as minus 1 point taken out of your team’s point.

 Missing The Golden Piece

My team – Hikianalia and Hine Moana. We got picked to be on the same team. in this event – game called scatterball. This game is based on your strength and your technique. There are 3 like softballs in the hula hoops we are attacking so we thought of using strength but we were missing something. Missing like a golden puzzle piece that was missing in the puzzle.

Strength  x Technique = Performance

Once I saw someone throw the ball where there are less kids it gave me an idea. The missing golden piece to the puzzle.

Strength x Technique = performance. combining the 2 will grant you a great performance. As for example your strength does the power right. And your technique does the multiply to your power. So I will explain what multiplying means. Multiplying is basically double or triples your strength it just depends on your technique. This way if you get used to this you will become unstoppable.

Using Logic

We were using strength over technique. It doesn’t matter if you have more power. So what we did we tried something new. Some of us and the other team were thinking of the same straight of throwing the ball separately. That’s smart but some of us used our heads of throwing the ball where there are less kids on the side because having less is better than having more people getting the ball.

SportsmanShip

During Athletics Day I saw everyone showing sportsmanship laughing together and having fun. So basically the story started when our first event – game scatter ball where everyone’s laughing, smiling, giving their all and most important of all, having fun!! And that’s the story of sportsmanship.

Life Lessons

What I learned about Athletics is that you can go beyond your limits if you push yourself NOT TO HARD!! and train yourself. By talking daily runs, eating healthy, drinking water and getting plenty of rest. Everyone has their own abilities like being a strategist or surpassing your goal.

I learned 5 skills that will help me and you in future sports. Which is Coordination, Teamwork, Listening, Effort and Quick Thinking.

Coordination and Teamwork

Coordination is a skill that helps yourself and others. What I’m saying is that Coordination is where you know where your hands, feet and your movements are going at the same time. This helps by trying new sports. And not fumbling. Teamwork is working well with others. If you’re in a solo match by yourself just ask or help your teammates by saving them.

Listening and Effort

Listening is what we need to work on because if we don’t pay attention to your coach or anyone that’s talking to you it’s a guarantee that you’ll be confused. Once you listen more you probably have more ways to play because you know what to do and not to do. Effort is when you try your hardest even though your team is losing. There is a chance if you and your team work together and put that effort into that.

Quick Thinking

This is a useful skill of playing sports. Here’s why: Imagine yourself in a game that’s very intense and you don’t know what to do. That’s when quick thinking comes. You need to make fast and smart choices. Here are the options: Shooting, dodging or passing. But you gotta think fast for the best possibilities to score for your team.

My advice would be: Always push yourself. Try Everything on Athletics Day isn’t just about winning, it’s about trying events. Trying for a mix of things, something fast like the sprint, something far like long jump or discus and a fun team event. You might discover a hidden talent!!

Final Thoughts

I will mostly remember the times of  Pt England Athletics. Because without Athletics I wouldn’t be able to play some sports. This helped me gain Stamina, Strength, Logic and Experience. My experience in the pt england athletics is having fun. I definitely would do it again because you can discover your new ability. And having a good experience.

Reading Comprehension Practice

This week we have been practicing our reading comprehension.

Our teacher gave us three texts to read about New Zealand things, like Waitangi Day, Monarch Butterflies, and a story about a cultural treasure. My favourite fact I learnt was…

We had to read the texts really carefully to find answers (Retrieval), figure out what the writer meant (Inference), and put ideas together (Integrate).

For each story, we had to become researchers and find the perfect photo to explain a tricky word from the text, like ‘Commemorates’ or ‘Tangible.

I enjoyed reading different story’s in the text  I did well at answering the question
