I had many highlights from the Year 7 Step Up programme.
Malo e lelei and Talofa Lava. My name is Mariposa. Last week we had a step up programme. The year 8s were going to camp and it was day one of the step up programme. It was time to start the step up programme. First the teachers in the step up programme were Mrs Tipene, Whaea Saf, Mrs Ilaoa, Mrs Lagitupu, Mrs White, and Tyson.
The teacher was calling out the teams and Whaea Saf said that we are doing our first challenge. The challenge is a haka next we have to go to our teams and practise the haka and the name of our team. All the team’s are set. We were choosing who our leaders would be, so the people that wanted to be the leader of the boys were Samson, Carlos, and Tevita.
We had a vote, some people voted for Samson and now for the girls it was Motu, Memory, Maggie. We voted for Motu as our girl leader. We had our boy and girl leaders so we just needed to practise the haka but some of us were scared to do the haka. Some people in our team were in soccer so Tevita was calling out the haka. The boys in the front and the girls in the back were practising.
Once we finished we were ready but we forgot our team name and motu said that our team name will be called Mana. Then we all sat down with the people in their team. Will called out there team’s name first we have Hustlers, Mana, Buckle’s and the leaders of their group have to do rock paper scissor shoot the winner will chose who will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, it was time to start Backle’s was the winner now they will chose to see who will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, they chosen Hustlers 1st Mana 2nd Backle’s 3rd.
Then Mrs Ilaoa introduce the Hustlers to come up to do the haka almost forgot that 1st place will get 500 points 2nd will get 250 points 3rd will get 50 points now back where we were the Hustlers was starting JJ was saying the haka with energy and pride some of us were cheering for JJ for the big loud haka then Annemarie was calling out when JJ finished saying the start of the haka they were doing the haka all of us were cheering at our friends Some said LETS GO HUSTLERS!!!!!!!!!!
After Hustlers and now it’s time for Mana I was scared at first but we have to do to step up to show what leadership looks like Tevita was shouting the haka the girls was in the back following the boys we were all doing and once we finished it’s time for the Buckles to do the haka my friend Mason was shouting out Buckles and Buckles was following Mason they were ready then they started doing the haka I cheered for my friend.
After the buckles doing the haka the teachers was judging the teams first it was Whaea saf that came up to jug first is said to everyone that Mana came 3rd Hustlers 2nd Buckles 1st and now it’s Mrs Ilaoa’s turn She said Mana 3rd 2nd Hustlers 1st Buckles now it’s our teacher Mrs Lagitupu said that Buckles 3rd because my friend mason doing it really well he gave it 100% but some people in the back we messing up and Mana 2nd Hustlers 1st she was surprise that JJ was giving it 100% to it’s Mrs Tipene turn she chose Buckles because she agreed with Mrs Lagitupu that some people in the back that messed up and she said she can’t choose her owned team she choose Mana we were happy.
